PADI SCUBA REVIEW/REFRESH

HAVEN'T DIVED IN A WHILE? DO A PADI SCUBA REVIEW
PADI SCUBA REVIEW

The PADI Scuba Review program, recently renamed Scuba Refresh, is a 2-3 hour course for qualified divers who have their licences but haven’t dived in more than 1 year or are unsure of their skills. The Scuba Review consists of a short knowledge review quiz which will be checked by your instructor. This is not a pass/fail test, it’s sole purpose is to allow the instructor to tailor the course to your specific needs. The instructor will go over the review with you, adding information to correct answers and giving you the correct answers to whichever questions you may have answered incorrectly.

Once the instructor is comfortable with the knowledge review, you will move on to the practical part of the Scuba Review. This takes place in a pool, and consists of 20 skills that you have learned in your PADI Open Water Certification Course.

The skills are as following:

  1. Assemble, adjust, prepare, put on and disassemble scuba equipment
  2. Perform a pre-dive safety check
  3. Demonstrate appropriate deep water entry
  4. Adjust for proper weighting
  5. Alternately breathe from snorkel and regulator without lifting your face from the water
  6. Descend using the five point method
  7. Recover and clear a regulator at depth
  8. Remove, replace and clear the mask
  9. Alternate air source, out of air signalling and breathing
  10. Ascend using an alternate air source
  11. Breathe from a free-flowing regulator for 30 seconds
  12. Use both oral and low-pressure BCD inflation to become neutrally buoyant
  13. Ascend using the five point method
  14. Remove, replace and adjust the weight system on the surface of the water
  15. CESA (Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent)
  16. Hover for 30 seconds
  17. Swim without a mask for 15 meters
  18. Remove, replace and adjust the weight system in the water
  19. Remove, replace and adjust the scuba unit on the surface
  20. Remove, replace and adjust the scuba unit in the water

Once these skills have been performed to the instructors satisfaction, you will be ready to take up open water diving and reintroduce yourself to the underwater world!
